ELKINS — With the start of divisional play less than three weeks away, area teams continue to hold their own in Associated Press polls.

Surging Elkins, a four-game winner in a row, moved up one spot to fifth in this week’s boys’ poll released on Monday.

The Tigers (10-3) return to the court tonight in Hampshire.

Meanwhile, Tygarts Valley, Tucker County and Pendleton all remained in the Class A poll.

The Bulldogs (8-3) and Mountain Lions (11-2) are fifth and seventh, respectively, and the Wildcats (8-2) are up from ninth to 10th.

The Buckhannon-Upshur girls, who have won four straight to improve to 12-3, are still eighth in the AAAA class.

Tucker County (11-4) also remained fourth in singles A and Pendleton County moved from receiving votes to 10th in this week’s poll.

The girls’ section tournament action is set to begin on February 18 and the boys a week later.
