When it comes to seasonal discount shopping, March isn’t the biggest month for bargains. Retailers are more focused on transitioning from winter to spring than staging huge sales or extending fat discounts.

“There are no major spending-focused business holidays in March, like Winter Break or Presidents Day, or even back-to-school shopping,” says Rebecca Gramuglia, consumer expert at TopCashBack. com, which offers members cash back on purchases. from participating retailers.

The absence of a big shopping spree, however, doesn’t mean no bargains can be had in March. Look for freebies and discounts on pizza and pies on Pi Day (March 14), plus green clothing sales for St. Patrick’s Day (March 17). Otherwise, retail experts say top sales will reflect inventory retailers want to clean up to make room for new stock. Here’s a look at six products that are among the best things to buy in March.

1. Skis and accessories

March is when you can often find the best deals of the year on skis and related gear like goggles, boots and poles to use next year. “Not only will you save on end-of-season sales, but they might also have items from last year that they couldn’t sell even more at a discount,” says budgeting expert Andrea Woroch.

Pro Tip: If you already know where you’ll be hitting the slopes in 2023, March is also the perfect time to get a discount on next year’s lift tickets.

2. Baggage

In addition to dealing with spring break, retailers are making room for new collections this month, says Julie Ramhold, consumer analyst for deals site DealNews. Since many people suspended travel last year due to COVID-19 issues, you may find a larger selection of last year’s merchandise on sale than in other years.

3. Frozen foods

Since the 1980s, manufacturers and retailers have recognized March as “frozen food” month, using it as an opportunity to promote and discount items in the freezer aisle, says Sally Lyons Wyatt, food and beverage analyst at IRI Worldwide. The wild card in 2022 is inflation, which could reduce the level of markdowns offered in supermarkets this year. “But if you’re looking to save on groceries and stock up on frozen foods, March is the month to do it,” she says.
