Texas drops from AP Top 25, Aggies climbs as Cincinnati reaches second

Cincinnati moved up to second behind Georgia in the Associated Press college football poll on Sunday, the first time a team outside of traditional power conferences has ranked this high since 2010.

The Bulldogs remained unanimous at No. 1 with 63 first-place votes in the Top 25 AP presented by Regions Bank and the Bearcats gained one spot, capitalizing on Iowa’s loss to Purdue on Saturday.

The Hawkeyes fell nine spots to No.11 and the Boilermakers entered the rankings at No.25, recording the longest current AP sounding drought for a Power Five school. The Boilermakers were last classified in 2007.

Oklahoma is No. 3, followed by Alabama and Ohio State.

The undefeated American Athletic Conference Cincinnati reached a new highest ranking in program history and is the first team to reach No.2 outside of a Power Five or BCS conference since TCU finished second in 2010, when she went undefeated as a member of the Mountain. Where is.

Boise State, then a member of the Western Athletic Conference, spent three weeks at No.2 in 2010.

Oklahoma state moved up to 8th after beating Texas and is in the top 10 for the first time since the start of the 2020 season.

Seven ranked teams lost on Saturday, including five to unranked teams, bringing the season total to 47.

In each of the past three weeks, a top-three team has lost to an unranked team, starting with Stanford at the time. 3 Oregon October 2.

All of those ranked team losses rocked the back half of the standings and put five new teams in the poll this week, including one that had never been there before.

– No.19 Auburn (5-2) is back in the standings after a road victory over Arkansas.

– No.20 Baylor (6-1) returned to the Top 25 with a convincing win over BYU.

– Pittsburgh No. 23 (6-1) is classified for the first time this season. Quarterback Kenny Pickett and the Panthers beat Virginia Tech on Saturday. Pitt has been briefly ranked in four of the past six seasons, but never higher than 21st.

– With Purdue (4-2) slipping through the standings, Kansas takes first place on today’s longest run list without being ranked among the Power Five schools. The Jayhawks were last ranked in October 2009. Next are Illinois, Rutgers, Oregon State and Vanderbilt.

– No.24 Texas-San Antonio (7-0) is undefeated and ranked for the first time in program history. The Roadrunners have only played at the highest level of Division I football since 2012. They are the first Conference USA team to make the Top 25 this season.

OUTSIDE

Florida fell off the standings for the first time this season after the Gators were beaten by LSU on Saturday.

This leaves the state of Florida with no ranked teams, a rare occurrence in recent polling history. The last time this happened was in 2011, when six times the Sunshine State didn’t have a single ranked team.

–Arkansas’ three-game losing streak took the Razorbacks down in the standings after a five-week run.

– Arizona State is out again after losing to Utah.

– BYU lost for the second week in a row and is unranked for the first time since last month.

– Texas are back… unseeded after the Longhorns lost a double-digit second-half lead for the second week in a row.
