Skiing: Vernon Boys and Pingry Girls Win Team Slalom Gold at NJISRA Championships

Vernon’s Pingry boys’ and girls’ ski teams won their respective team giant slalom races on Tuesday, winning the corresponding NJISRA championships at Winter4Kids in Vernon.

Vernon was led by Matt Tavares, who posted the best time of the day with a 1:13.26, along with strong days from Evan Amato (1:20.70), Morgan Freifelder (1:22.36) and Tyler Heykoop (1: 22.39), each of whom finished in the top 21 of all skiers.

Don Bosco Prep finished second among the men’s teams, buoyed by top-10 finishes from fourth-placed Spencer Donohue (1:16.89) and eighth-placed Thomas Harle (1:18.34).

Chase Greenberg finished in 1:14.81, third among all skiers, to lead Morristown-Beard to third place.

Louis Friedrich of Delbarton (1:13.78) took second place overall, while Camden Collins of Pingry finished in 1:16.92 to complete the top five.

Pingry’s women’s team put in an even more dominant performance, recording four of the day’s 14 best times, including an event-fastest 1:15.58 from Camille Collins, who finished fourth in the standings. general at last season’s NJISRA Championships.

Ella Tabish (1:22.47), Annabelle Collins (1:22.77) and Helen Pols (1:23.11) also contributed to Pingry’s victory.

Vernon took second place in the girls behind a third place finish from Kelsey Callahan (1:18.09) and a seventh place finish from Grace Tavares (1:21.12).

Sarah Marcovici posted the sixth-fastest time of the day, finishing in 1:21.04 to lead Ridgewood to a third-place finish.

Morgan Celly of Blair finished second overall with a time of 1:16.94, Ella Scarola of Mountain Lakes (1:20.45) and Sophie O’Connor of Ridge (1:20.97) completing the top five .
