  • Rockland Belt

the Rockland Belt includes some of the preferred routes for cyclists in the New York metro area. Starting and ending at the Salonniere Coffee Bar on South Broadway in Nyack, enjoy breathtaking views of the river running up the west side of the Hudson River, followed by a climb through Tompkins Cove where country roads lead you. right at the back gate of Harriman State Park. The return loop takes you through quiet roads to Pomona and back roads to Chestnut Ridge, Pearl River with a final climb over Bradley Hill / Tweed to Nyack. Rob Panzera, who is a member of the Rockland, Westcheter and North Jersey cycling clubs, says this hike is both challenging and rewarding. “Bring your climbing legs for this hike, but expect big gains on beautiful views, winding country roads and some unseen parts of the county,” says South Nyack cyclist Rob Panzera, who rides with the Rockland Bicycling Club and the Bicycle Touring Club of North Jersey (BTCNJ). Rob recommends driving this route on Saturday or Sunday mornings when there are fewer cars on the road. “This route is suitable for an experienced cyclist or an intermediate cyclist looking for a difficult ride.”

This 34 mile route covers some of Rockland County’s best cycling trails with great scenery and minimal traffic. The route runs along Hi-Tor which is visible in several places. The elevation is not excessive but does include several hills with the longest climb being near the end on Hook Mt. in Nyack. Ride is aimed at experienced road cyclists of all skill levels.

If you want to ride a little more and have the opportunity to meet and socialize with local cyclists, the Rockland Bicycling Club runs a regular outing on Mondays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. at Rockland Lake State Park from April through September. .

The road circles Lake Rockland on its peripheral roads. It’s a great place to learn group driving skills… or just enjoy the outdoors after work in a mostly car-free environment. “It’s a great way to meet like-minded people without any pressure to fall behind,” says Paul Langus, RBC Leader.

  • Esposito Trail to Tallman State Park

Want to get away from it all… while still being close to restaurants, shops, Metro North and the quaint river villages of Rockland? This route offers great glimpses of the Hudson and the Tappan Zee Bridge (aka Mario M Cuomo Bridge) as you follow the old railway line that went all the way to Nyack until the 1960s. “If you like your exercise lifted with a bit of history, this ride is for you, ”says recreational cyclist Dan Cohen. Parts of the path are not improved, but this is acceptable for road cyclists who are willing to avoid the bumps along the path between South Nyack and Sparkill.   • Tweed-elDee
    Road ride / 8 miles / 893 feet elevation (9% incline)

Watch out for mountain goats on two wheels: this short loop is for serious climbers. At 100 feet per mile, it will tax even the fittest bikers. The section on Tweed Blvd. is scenic with almost no traffic, however, it will test your uphill and downhill skills. It is a loop that can be combined with many other routes either from Nyack or from Blauvelt in the west. This route is intended for experienced cyclists and in good shape.
