Peter Richard Gryziec, Jr., 75, of Rome, died on Wednesday May 12, 2021 at the Abraham House in Rome, after a long illness. He was born in Rome, NY, on September 4, 1945, son of Peter and Nancy Simiele Gryziec.

Peter graduated from the Transfiguration School and Oriskany High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy. Peter retired from the City of Rome Fire Department. His many interests included golf, skiing (ski patrolling), parachuting and piloting his own plane. Peter has traveled the country several times for fun and driving semi-trailers. He was a member of the Stanwix Veteran’s and Men’s Club, the Ukrainian Club, the Rome Country Club and the Polish Home.

Surviving is a daughter, Shonda (Duane) Newman; granddaughters, Remington and Marin, Allen, Texas; sisters, Carol (Paul) Rutherford, Murrells Inlet, SC, Maida Burns, Oriskany; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Marilynn Titus.

As per Peter’s request, there are no hours or call services. Interment in St. Mary’s cemetery.
