Obituary of William Cummins (1948-2021) – Valence, CA


Bill Cummins from Valencia, California passed away on Friday June 11, 2021. He was 73 years old.

Bill was born on February 18, 1948 in Des Moines, IA. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and attended Mendel Catholic High School where he received a full scholarship for his debate expertise at Loyola University in Chicago. While there, he was chairman of the debate team, where he was a national contender and featured in “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities, 1970”. He received his BBA in Marketing from Loyola University. Bill then received his MBA in Marketing from Northwestern University-Kellogg School of Management.

Bill has had a long career with many large companies, offering his expertise to help them shape their marketing strategies. Some of its titles included; Head of Market Research for Hunt Wesson Foods, Head of Long Term Market Planning for Toyota / Lexus Sales, Senior Vice President for Rubin Postaer and Associates, and finally President of Cummins Marketing Consulting, Inc. (CMC) where he was a consultant to major companies including, but not limited to; Hewlett-Packard, JP Morgan, MasterCard and Bank of America. Bill was in high demand by companies across Europe, the United States and Japan.

Bill was an adventurous soul and lived his life to the fullest. He was a great traveler of the world and his stories could spark a room full of laughs without much effort. He was a lifetime member of the Sierra Club and enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking, cross-country skiing, and hot air balloons. He was a connoisseur of fine wines and jazz musicians. Bill was looking forward to the annual Jazz & Wine festival where he would spend several days with friends reveling among the great jazz artists.

Bill was an avid reader and avid film enthusiast. He learned to criticize the films of his friend, the legendary film critic (the late) Roger Ebert. Rarely was a conversation where Bill did not give his recommendations on which movies he considered “must see”.

Bill gave back to his community in many ways, but he enjoyed volunteering at the local high school and mentoring seniors on how to be successful in their future endeavors.

Of course, Bill’s passion was his deep ability to tell stories and deliver speeches. He belonged to Toastmasters International where he won numerous awards.

Bill is predeceased by his parents, Harold William and Atea (Bulf) Cummins. Survivors include his siblings; Jim (Darlene) Cummins, Linda (Jim) Politano and Candace (Doug) Cepuran. Nieces and nephews understand; Jim (Megan) Cummins, Lorelei (Ross) Evans, Timothy Politano and Eric, Leann and Julia Cepuran. Great nephews; Graham and Jordan Cummins.

The family would like to thank all of Bill’s friends and neighbors for their immense outpouring of love and sympathy. Plus, a very special thank you to Bill’s dearest friends Clint and Eden Reagan, who were invaluable during this loving time.

Above all, we give thanks for the life of a truly good man who was loved by all who knew him and whose essence will never be extinguished from our minds.

Services will be held in private at the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Alsip, IL.
