Moon Knight actor Gaspard Ulliel, 37, dies after skiing accident

After being hospitalized yesterday after a serious ski accident in the resort of La Rosiere in the French Alps, it has been reported that actor Gaspard Ulliel has died from his injuries aged 37.

Ulliel was airlifted to a hospital in Grenoble by helicopter last night after sustaining head injuries in a collision on the ski slopes, according to Deadline, who received the news from the Agence France-Presse news agency. While Ulliel’s best-known role in the United States was probably that of Hannibal in Hannibal rising, the 2007 prequel to Thesilenceofthelambs, that will probably change in March. The actor had been cast as Anton Mogart in the upcoming Disney+ TV series moon knight, starring Oscar Isaac, airs March 30. Mogart, also known as Midnight Man, was a master thief in the Marvel Comics Universe who committed his crimes at midnight and clashed with the Lunar Vigilante. The studio has not yet released a comment on Ulliel’s passing.

“Gaspard belonged to this new generation of actors who were making the French cinema of tomorrow. He knew how to choose his roles and shaped his career which fulfilled all its promises. Thierry Fremaux, the director of the Cannes Film Festival, said in a statement on Ulliel’s death provided to Variety. “Every appearance on the red carpet, from “The Princess of Montpensier” to “It’s only the end of the world” illustrated his presence, both discreet and full of benevolence. Ulliel also played the role of Yves Saint Laurent in Saint Laurent, a 2014 French biopic. His portrayal of the fashion designer earned him Best Actor at the César Awards that year, as well as a Best Actor nomination at the Lumières Awards. He is survived by his wife, Gaëlle Piétri, and his son.
