Australian Harry Laidlaw went three for three, winning his third straight GS NorAm with home advantage. After a five-day streak at Whiteface Mountain, the men moved to Burke Mountain for two days of tech. Hot off the heels of his first NorAm victories, Laidlaw again took over the top spot for a final boost of confidence before heading back to Europe for the Europa Cup circuit.

Growing up skiing in Australia, Laidlaw joined Burke Mountain Academy during his high school days. Coming back to Burke felt like his second home.

“It’s been a good day,” Laidlaw said. “The first run I made a few mistakes and the race was really tight so I knew I had to show my best skiing in the second run. I just trusted my skiing from last week and it paid off.

Laidlaw came out confident on his first run and despite his mistakes he narrowly edged British Alpine Team skier Charlie Raposo by 0.01 seconds. Trusting his skiing paid off as he edged Raposo in the second run to extend his victory by 1.18 seconds.

Isaiah Nelson, a member of the US Ski Team, completed the podium in third place. He was fourth after the first, 0.26 seconds behind Laidlaw and behind Alpine Canada’s Riley Seger. Nelson passed for third as Seger dropped to 17th for the race. Just off the podium was Fabian Ax Swartz of Sweden, whose second run was second fastest behind Laidlaw and moved up nine positions from his first run.

The men return to Burke Mountain for the slalom on Tuesday.
