Crystal Mountain celebrates World Snow Day on the slopes

Crystal Mountain Ski Resort in Thompsonville welcomed people of all ages to try skiing and snowboarding in honor of World Snow Day.

Mix that with the Learn to Ski and Snowboard month and you have a busy weekend on the slopes.

“For us, we have one of our busiest days of the year right now.”

Snow Sports Director Chris Fisher invites all of his instructors to do what they love.

“So here on the hill we have a couple thousand people enjoying the slopes, really good conditions, we have tons of snow right now,” Fisher said.

Many of them are beginners, take group lessons and attend free demonstrations.

“We went out for lessons, in fact most of the kids between today and yesterday had lessons and we’re going to get this guy to take lessons in February.”

Dan Calandriello and his family traveled from Chicago to ski at Crystal Mountain.

“It’s a hike, but worth it, enjoy three full days of skiing,” Calandriello said.

The weather can be freezing, but that won’t stop anyone here.

“I just have to wrap myself up, a few more layers, that’s it,” Calandriello said.

The people of Crystal Mountain invite everyone to come and take a lesson before the end of the season.

“For all of us involved here, it’s our passion, it’s what we love to do, and in snow sports we want to share that passion with anyone who wants to come and see what it’s all about,” said Fisher said.
