Chanel Fall / Winter 2021 collection by Virginie Viard is Parisian chic and ski vacation all mixed in one

Playful, sophisticated, fun and chic Chanel describes the fall-winter 2021 collection by Virginie Viard for Chanel. “I love contrasts, so for larger winter rooms, I wanted a small space”, note Viard, describing the atmosphere of the CHANEL Prêt-à-Porter Fall-Winter 2021/22 show in a press release. “I don’t know if it’s because of the times we live in, but I wanted something warm, lively. I imagined the models putting on a show for themselves, going from room to room, crossing each other on the stairs, stacking their coats in the locker room and going up to the next floor to change. And I thought of the catwalks Karl was telling me about back then, a long time ago, when models were dressing and putting on makeup. The presentation was directed by duo Inez and Vinoodh, filming the show as they played with contrasts.

“So I decided to go to Castel. I love Castel so much for its many lounges, the spiral staircase, its bar, the journey through this place, its cottage style, where models can change, dress and undress, put on makeup together and have fun like a girls night out. Castel is a private Parisian establishment in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the essential place for nightlife.

It is a sultry collection of contrasts where Viard has created long tweed coats with a chevron pattern that reveals the legs of a woman wearing voluminous black curly faux fur boots; or a pantsuit in tweed with small checks in blue lurex with thin pearl straps and layers of long necklaces.

The overalls – ski suits in white quilting embroidered with red and blue patterns – or in fuchsia tweed, worn with strappy sandals and embellished with chains and small black bows or pumps adorned with a camellia. Viard’s delicate chiffon blouses, or crepe de chine blouses paired with winter sports-inspired pieces, are another contrasting look.

“This collection is a mix of two influences: the atmosphere of a ski vacation, which I love, and a certain idea of ​​cool Parisian chic, from the 1970s to today,” shares Viard. Viard was inspired by Stella Tennant’s appeal and the way she wore Chanel.
