A young HALESOWEN has been chosen for the UK’s Under-16 Alpine Skiing Team.

Amber Fennell has been skiing since the age of four and has won numerous national competitions.

The 14-year-old, who attends Bromsgrove School, has also been snowboarding since the age of seven and wants to one day be part of the Olympic team.

Amber said: “I can’t choose between skiing and snowboarding, I love them both! I want to keep going and compete in both.

“In winter, I go to Austria to snowboard and then I train at home in the summer from the beginning of May on dry ski slopes. I also do a lot more physical training.”

Amber is a student at Bromsgrove School.

Amber’s grandmother, Dianne Fennell, says she’s so proud of Amber’s accomplishments. Ms. Fennell added: “She is very dedicated and works so hard! The whole family is so proud of her.

“She has competed in freestyle snowboarding and boarder cross competitions all over Europe, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Germany, and has been very successful.

“The last 3 seasons have been very good for Amber, finishing first in her age group.

“This season has not been very good with the Covid-19, but she participated in her first FIS snowboard competition in Switzerland and finished 1st which was good as she was the youngest competitor.

“She was fortunate that the Bromsgrove school helped her a lot with her schoolwork while she was in Austria via the internet and she maintained a high standard of work.”

Amber competes with her snowboard team – Why Ain’t You and her ski team – Midlands ski club.
