5 Things to Love About Aspen-Snowmass’ Newest Ski-In Ski-Out Hotel

Aspen-Snowmass is one of the best ski destinations in the world, filled with upscale and memorable mountain accommodations.

So what’s up? This season, a premier piste-side property in Snowmass changed hands, reopening just months ago in December 2021 as a four-star line of sightjoining the Marriott portfolio.

The property is slated to become an Autograph Collection resort later this summer, in time for next winter, but it’s already operating under Marriott’s rewards program, Marriott Bonvoy. Members can earn and redeem points on the Viewline, a huge selling point and raffle for Marriott loyalists.

As the hotel was up and running in its first season, we had a chance to take a look inside. Here are five things to know (and love) about the new Viewline:

It’s fresh out of a $40 million renovation

Prior to its opening, the Viewline underwent a massive renovation, transforming many aspects of the property, including the lobby, guest rooms, common areas, fitness center, and spa.

In total, it has 254 rooms, including 20 suites, combining mountain decor (rustic wood finishes) and modern luxury (cozy bedding, soft white finishes, in-room espresso coffee maker, on-site ski concierge).

As well as renovating the rooms, the renovation also transformed the lobby, moving the lobby bar to a more prominent location next to the check-in counters, sparking more energy and atmosphere in the lobby – it almost begs you to come and enjoy a local beverage every time you walk through the front doors. It also achieved the goal of fostering an afternoon gathering place in the heart of the hotel (see below).

Plus, three new food and beverage concepts and a spa were also part of the rebrand – read on to find out more.

An upstream location for real ski-in, ski-out

Many places offer convenient access to the slopes, but few allow you to stay directly on The hills.

The Viewline is unique in this sense, located “mid-mountain”, best described as being a few ski turns above the main base and the Village Express lift. Step out of the hotel’s piste-side doors, strap on your skis and you’ll be at the Village Express lift in less than a minute. It is time for lunch? Done for the day? Simply ski right to the hotel doorstep.

In this way, the Viewline offers every customer a true ski-in ski-out experience. Easy and easy access is especially convenient for families with children, multi-generational groups, remote workers and, of course, avid skiers.

And let’s not forget perhaps the most impressive aspect of the Viewline – it’s right there in the name. Be sure to get a slope-facing room for gorgeous views of the ski slopes, lift, and surrounding mountain peaks.

After on site is multiple choice

One of the most important aspects of ski culture? Atmosphere afterwards. And the Viewline fits wonderfully, with both in-house and close-in options.

The redesigned lobby bar features live music every evening during the afternoon, where you can warm up on comfortable seats and admire the ski slopes with a glass of wine, a local beer or a cocktail.

Or, if you prefer to sit outside and soak up the sun, there are several options right outside its doors. Grab a craft beer and sit in front of a fireplace in the New Belgian ranger stationor grab a bar stool at VengaVenga for tacos and margaritas.

Convenient, car-free ski holidays

You may want to explore the area during your visit, take several outings, and try some of the restaurants in downtown Aspen. But if you didn’t want to go anywhere, you wouldn’t have to.

For a mountainside hotel, there’s an impressive amount of restaurants within walking distance or a short shuttle ride from the Viewline, enough to have three meals a day plus after without repeating establishments over the course of a few days.

In addition to the places mentioned above, there are several dining options for dinner. Internally at the Viewline is Stark’s Alpine Grill, a steakhouse serving a mix of traditional cuts of meat, seafood platters and hearty appetizers (we highly recommend the French Onion Soup). Also located on the Viewline complex is Slow Groovin’ BBQ, a beloved seal in the area. In-room dining is an option for those wishing to dine in the comfort of their room. For breakfast, try the first chair cafe for morning drinks and breakfast burritos.

If that’s not enough, you can ski back to base for the afternoon and take the Sky Cab gondola back to the hotel. You can also shuttle back to the base area for dinner and then take the Sky Cab back to line of sight afterwards. The Sky Cab gondola is open until 9 p.m.

Finally, you do not need to move to enjoy a relaxing massage. New Spa Lupine offers Sundari and Hydrafacial skincare products as well as a range of massage techniques, from deep tissue to hot stones.

Childcare services at the hotel and mountain activities

Do adults want to run some errands on their own? The Viewline offers on-site childcare through the Lupine KidsZone, located right there in the security of the hotel. KidsZone offers a range of services, available by the hour ($25/hour) or for the full day, including meals and activities.

You’ll make lots of family memories on a trip to Snowmass; however, there’s no shame in sneaking in for a few races and a few head-to-head times. In a place like the Viewline, where it’s all there, it’s easy to accomplish and make sure everyone – including you – gets what they want and need from the experience.
